Enhancement of algorithms for Night Vision of Traffic Images

Abstract

In systems of reading motor vehicle license plate is frequent to use a dual head system: the first head performs the reading of license plate, the second head is used as the camera of the context in order to have an image with a wider field of view which documents the passage of the vehicle and possibly allows you to make out the vehicle shape. The aim of the project is to enhance image of night traffic in order to improve the quality of the picture both on license plates and on vehicle shapes, and compare the various tecnhiques in order to emphasize the advantages and disadvantages of each one.

The analyzed and compared algorithms are:

- histogram equalization;

- adaptive histogram equalization;

- clipping level histogram equalization;

- retinex;

- ace.
